Cherry Almond Amish Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 12 oz jar maraschino cherries, minced & very dry
  • 2 c butter
  • ½ c canola oil
  • ½ c sugar
  • ½ tsp each almond & cherry extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ c cream of tartar
  • 2 ¾ c flour

Icing

  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • ⅛ c maraschino cherry juice (add more to taste as desired)
  • ½ tsp each almond & cherry extract
  • 2–3 c powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Beat butter, oil & sugars until combined.
  2. Beat in eggs, extracts, cherries (make sure they're very dry).
  3. Combine dry ingredients and gradually add to wet mixture (don't overmix).
  4. Bake at 375 ℉ for 8–11 minutes or until lightly browned edges.

Yields 3 dozen.
